About Sangeet Australia Formed in 2004 Sangeet Australia is an artist run grass-roots organisation focussed on fostering greater understanding and appreciation of this sublime classical music tradition from India. We produce a monthly series of high quality acoustic soirees and various other activities, including larger concerts and workshops, supporting both local nad international musicians.
Our regular monthly series of mehfils (soirees) have taken place at Dickson space in Newtown, a tasteful informal performance space with a private shaded courtyard that adds to the wonderful atmosphere of the performances. These have been very successful and over time have attracted a loyal and dedicated audience. Our aim is to cultivate an informed and inviting atmosphere in which this sublime music can be enjoyed to the fullest extent by both artists and audience alike. We also endeavour to provide information about Hindustani music through regular workshops and related materials that will help members of our audience to be able to develop their understanding of the music. We seek to encourage musical contacts between India and Australia. Can you help us?
Gaining support in both arts and Indian communities, Sangeet Australia has been thus far unfunded. We are now seeking corporate and/or private sponsorship to help us to continue supporting artists and live music in Sydney. Any little bit helps.
